Kalanick venture Atoms develops robotaxi technology

Travis Kalanick’s company Atoms is developing robotaxi technology and has hired autonomous-driving engineer Anthony Levandowski after acquiring his company Pronto, according to a Financial Times report relayed by Techmeme. Uber has invested $100 million in Atoms, which is reportedly preparing a hiring drive and could work with the ride-hailing company.

Why it matters

The venture could reconnect Uber’s former chief with the autonomous-vehicle market through a heavily funded new company.
