Teen drops social media addiction lawsuit against Meta
A 15-year-old Florida plaintiff, identified by the initials R.K.C., voluntarily dismissed his social media addiction claims against Meta less than a week before a Los Angeles trial was set to begin. The case was the second in a bellwether set, and its withdrawal left none of the major tech companies facing trial. Meta and YouTube had been found liable in a March case.
Why it matters
The dismissal removes a high-profile test of whether platforms can be held responsible for addictive design, but earlier verdicts suggest legal pressure on social media companies persists.
