Canada rejects Trump’s Lake Ontario renaming order
US President Donald Trump directed federal agencies to use the name Lake America for Lake Ontario. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and several US officials rejected the move, which cannot change Canadian or international usage. The executive order follows the collapse of recent trade talks between the neighbouring countries.
Why it matters
The order adds a symbolic territorial dispute to worsening US-Canada relations.
