Berlin Pride attack suspect shot dead by police
Police shot and killed Abdul Ballout, 21, the suspect in an attack near Berlin's Pride festival, after he reportedly rushed at officers with a knife in the Spandau district, officials said. Authorities described the van-and-knife attack, which killed one person and injured 29, as Islamist terrorism. Earlier reports had cited a lower casualty count during the manhunt.
Why it matters
The killing closes a tense manhunt but fuels European debate over extremism and public-event security.
